There is a certain kind of city that feels, from the moment you arrive, as though it was designed with intention. As if someone, a long time ago, sat down with a sheet of paper and asked, "How should a great city be designed?" Budapest is definitely not that kind of city.
Budapest was fought over, divided, occupied, bombed, and rebuilt multiple times over the centuries. The full picture was never considered. Somehow, it still became one of the most beautiful capitals in Europe.
In the summer of 2027, this beautiful city will host the International Mathematics Olympiad. By then, the Holy Crown will have spent another year identifying as the Hungarian state, the M1 will have completed its 131st year of continuous service, and the Chain Bridge will still be holding.
See you in Budapest!
